IIT Delhi has released the results of the GATE exam in the month of March and the students now are a step away from their next level. After the results, students have to check their score and if they have received the minimum GATE score, they can proceed to the next step that of counseling to take admission to the desired college and program.
The students can check their scores and ranks on the official website of GATE in order to know the minimum cut-off marks and can move ahead accordingly.
Minimum GATE score released
The minimum GATE score for NITs, IITs, and similar other colleges has been released now. The minimum cut off marks for ME is 34.0, for CE it is 32.9, and it is 28.8 for EC.
The candidates need to score at least this minimum score in order to qualify for the next step for admission in NIT and other important colleges of the country.
GATE is conducted by the seven IITs across the country and each year lakhs of candidates appear for it so that they can get qualified to get admission in these reputed colleges. The syllabus is vast and hence the candidates need to prepare in a smart way so that nothing is left out. Also, as the exam has negative markings, it is important that the candidates appear in the exam with proper preparation.
How is the cut off marks calculated?
Now, it will be quite interesting to know about the calculation of the minimum cut off marks by GATE. It can depend on a number of different factors and a few of them are discussed below.

- It also depends on how difficult the GATE exam paper has been set.
- Again, it also depends on the number of seats that are available in the colleges.

Though a general cut-off mark has been released, there can be different cut-off marks released by different colleges also depending upon the number of seats that they have. This can be known when the candidates apply to the respective colleges through the official website.
Options after GATE
Though most of the candidates aim at appearing for GATE so that they can get qualified to get admission in their desired colleges with their desired program, there are also a number of other options that candidates do have. There are a lot of candidates who choose to appear in GATE and get admission after it so that they can get stipend along with the studies and the course fees can get reduced down.
Also, there are a number of candidates who get qualified in the GATE exam with a rank of 100 and hence they get the opportunity to participate in the selection process arranged by the different PSUs of the country. There are some of the important sectors such as State Electricity Boards, and even some of the prestigious names such as BARC and ISRO that select candidates who have done really well in the GATE exam.
