Negative marking: 1/4 mark
Time: 8 Minutes

Q1. The instrument used for checking out right angles is known as ……………
(a) Ghat tracer
(b) Leveling staff
(c) Target prism
(d) Optical square

Q2. If the fore bearing of the line AB is 119°48’ then back baring is:
(a) 299° 48’
(b) 209°48’
(c) 119°48’
(d) 319°48’

Q3. Grade compensation on a horizontal curve on a highway is not necessary when:-
(a) Gradient is flatter than 4 percent
(b) Gradient is steeper than 4 percent
(c) Gradient is flatter than 6 percent
(d) Gradient is steeper than 6 percent

Q4. The unit of rate of change of centrifugal acceleration of transit curve is:
(a) m/sec³
(b) m/sec²
(c) m/sec
(d) No unit

Q5. The length of the sedimentation tank should be at least ______ the breadth of the tank.
(a) One time
(b) four times
(c) Two times
(d) three times

Q6. A type of valve which provided at the corner of roads to control the flow of water at the cross-section of the distribution system is called?
(a) Safety valve
(b) Scour valve
(c) Sluice valve
(d) check valve

S1. Ans. (d)
Sol. a normally optical square instrument used for checking out the right angle. It’s working on the principle of double reflection. Cross staff, Prism square also used for 90° Angle measuring.

S2. Ans. (a)
Sol. the fore bearing of line ‘AB’ = 119°48’
Fore baring is less than 180° so we calculate back bearing by adding 180°. If fore bearing greater than 180° then we subtract 180° from it.
Back bearing of line AB = 180°+〖119°48〗^’=〖299°48〗^’

S3. Ans. (a)
Sol. Grade compensation on a horizontal curve on a highway is not necessary when the gradient is flatter than 4%.

S4. Ans. (a)
Sol. The unit of rate of change of centrifugal acceleration of transit curve is m/sec³.

S5. Ans. (b)
Sol. the length of the sedimentation tank should be at least four times the breadth of the tank. The breadth of the sedimentation tank should be 10 to 12 m and depth should be 3 to 4.5 m.

S6. Ans. (c)
Sol. Sluice valve or gate valve are provided at the corner of roads which control and regulate the flow of water at the cross-section of the distribution system.
